DESCRIPTION:
In 1955, a 14-year-old black Chicago youth traveled to the Mississippi Delta with country kinfolk and southern cooking on his mind. He walked off the train and into a world he could never understand — a world of thick color lines, of hard-held class systems and unspeakable taboos. Young Emmett crossed that line and stepped into his gruesome fate by whistling at a white woman.

On Thursday, April 11 at 7pm at the historic Morton Theatre, the Morton Theatre Corporation is proud to present the amazing documentary theatre artist Mike Wiley and his performance of "Dar He: The Story of Emmett Till." This riveting play chronicles the murder, trial and unbelievable confession of the men accused of lynching the 14-year-old Till. Prepare for your mind to be awakened and your heart opened by Wiley's expansive, one-man performance of these chilling historic events. Seamlessly transforming himself into a vast array of compelling characters, Wiley’s ability to engage people of all ages in learning from our shared history is one of a kind. Audience members become participants as Wiley's on-stage invitations and post-show talkbacks create an atmosphere of collective learning and an opportunity for community healing. MTC can't wait for our community to be enriched by this spectacular event. Don't miss your chance to witness Mr. Wiley's incredible performance of Dar He, and be a part of this important learning experience!
